Last night was rough. Brennen was all over the place, up and down, trying to pull out his nose tube and urine bag, throwing pillows, and even trying to get out of bed. At one point he had his legs over the side and was half out. He only slept solidly from about 4:00–8:00 p.m., and since then it has been short naps and restlessness.
I tried putting the mittens back on around 1:00 so I could get a little sleep, but he managed to get them off with his teeth. By about 2:30 he was wide awake and really agitated, saying his pain was a 10/10. He has been talking a bit more; he counted for me from 1–10 and said he was in a hospital when I asked where he was.
When I went to get help, our nurse was gone. The replacement at the desk said she would send him a message, but she never got up. I was yelling at Brennen to stop pulling his tubes and pressing the call light for help. Eventually, another CNA came about 10 minutes later.
He kept pulling off the PureWick but eventually used a urinal with my help. When our nurse came in, Brennen told him, “I want to get the f*** out of here.”
He also pulled himself up using the bed to a sitting position. He used his call light correctly when I showed him how, so that was at least a positive.
We really need to talk with the care team about the timing and effectiveness of his evening meds, whatever he is getting at 8:00 is not helping him rest. I love seeing his progress, but nights like this are completely draining.
He is fighting hard, trying to get the F*^% out of here!!
